Nightingale is a hybrid, thus she is a mix of many different species in Caged Dream. Bits and parts both show in her features while others hide in her DNA and abilities.
One thing to note about Nightingale is that she is a shape-shifter. While she has some set backs on what she can transform into, her general energy is always the same. Her colors and major physical traits (her eyes, scars, and general otherworldly energy) stay no matter the form.
The first thing you notice about Nightingale is almost always her hair. Even if she didn’t have her bangs covering up half her face, the color of her hair and the hairstyle she has is sure to grab attention. Her hair is a fiery red, vibrant and voluminous. This hair of hers is cut into a style similar to a butterfly cut, spiky and wild. She sometimes ties this hair into low ponytails and braids, but most of the time she wears it down. Her bangs, as mentioned, are long and parted, covering the right side of her face. It is clear that she is trying to hide her other eye from view. You will certainly notice how her hair seems to glitter and sparkle, almost like the glitter from a crystal, in the light. She sparkles like the star she is deep in her core. Her hair also always has this heart shaped cow-lick at the top of her head, she can never seem to get it down.
Her skin matches this theme, where her pale, porcelain skin is brushed with warm, deep pink blush. It decorates the bridge of her face, her elbows, and her knees. It seems to even lightly dust the tips of her fingers and her toes. Looking closely at her face will show the cute sparkle her cheeks have, like she has the world’s most sparkly highlighter. She often uses this excuse to hide the fact she is a shape-shifter when in different forms.
In every form however, she always has the strangest eyes. Even with her other eye covered, the eye shown is still odd; the white sclera is the only normal thing about it. The iris of this eye is a warm, sweet pink, making the weird pupil stand out more. Both of her pupils are shaped like a sparkle, with a small diamond shape in the center. The inside of the sparkle is colored a deeper, darker color than the respective iris, with the pink iris being a deep reddish pink and the other being a dusty, darker blue. The pupil’s outline and the small diamond shape inside is a warmish, pastel yellow. When her pupils “shrink”, they narrow into pastel yellow slits akin to a snake rather than growing smaller in size. Her covered eye is hidden from others for a reason. The iris of the eye isn’t too different, being a pale, dusty light blue with the matching pupil. But, when you move the sclera, you see that it’s a deep, dark black. One could almost say it’s like a void, but looking closer you will see it has the deep space of stars shining within.
The skin of her body seems normal enough to the outside world, but that’s because she purposefully hides her markings and scars. She has many different markings, a mix of Villicus-like markings and those matching Caenelegies. Most of the markings are small and easy to hide, them being a mix of void black and a light, glowing yellow. These markings do faintly glow, with the black markings having an aura of darkness around them. The most major marking is one that matches the Caenelegies, though in a different spot. On her ribs is an incredibly intricate mark, spanning across her entire front of the rib cage. She always tries to keep the covered, even in swimsuits, almost like she embarrassed by it.
Another thing she always tries to hide is her arms and thighs. She is an extreme self-harmer, almost her entire left arm is covered in deep scars and fresh cuts, the same is true for her upper thighs. Her scars are oddly colored thanks to her strange blood, which may seem normal in other forms for a few seconds, but truly it’s a deep, endless void of black. Her wounds heal into a dusty, dark purple at first, the older they are, the more deep pink they become. Her blood changes to match the species she is mimicking only for a short time. The same goes for her muscle and insides, where her deep muscle and bones becoming more and more void like and black the deeper you go. This is why when her body shifts new limbs, jaws, and other body parts and sometimes weapons, the muscle is a mix of warm pinks, mucky grays and deep blacks and her bones are a mix of white and black. Her chewed down finger nails also are a deep black, matching the Villicus’ own nails and claws. But because she gnaws them down so often, they don’t grow into the claws they are supposed to take from.
When she is in her original form, Nightingale has many feathers and wings decorating her body. All the feathers are a brilliant white, giving her an innocent look. The wings on her are all tipped in a pastel pink, making the initial impression even more grounded. The wings on her back are a bit strange, as they don’t aid her in flight and are more so there for expression. They start on her mid back and angle straight upwards once they branch out, much like a cherub’s wings one would see in old artwork. The next pair is found on her face, folded towards her face. They start behind her slightly pointed and almost scalloped ears, and then curl around to frame her face, hiding her ears from view. Despite seemingly stationary, these wings can open much like the Caemors. On the front side of these wings hides an eye, both matching her blue eye, often opening in times of stress, almost like a moth trying to scare away predators. Because her control of these eyes is lacking, she tries to keep her wings folded to hide both her ears and strange features. The next two pairs are both found on her long tail. A pair of small, immobile wings frame the base of her tail, starting at the tail bone, these curl down slightly unlike the pair further down. Following down the feathered thin tail’s length, another pair of spread wings is found. These mark the beginning of the large end of feathers that span over a 3rd of the tail’s length. The end of the tail has a large bush of feathers, the bottom of the collection dipped in that pastel pink. They drape down due to weight, but are well-kept by Nightingale, same goes for all her feathers. This tail is also used for emoting, often raised slightly off the ground as to not dirty it.
Nightingale also has another emoting tool at her disposal, her cute, cherub-like halo that floats above her head, slightly tilted to the side. Her halo seems simple compared to her “siblings” and even those she takes from, but her halo can change shape depending on her emotion. When happy and excited, it tends to form a heart; when annoyed or upset, it forms a downward swirl; it also changes into question marks and exclamation points.
Nightingale is a very curvy girl, if not quite chubby. Her hips are wide and rounded, her chest is large and she has large thighs. Her stomach is also large at that, but she still has the hourglass-like figure thanks to her structure and fat distribution. Her upper arms are also larger, and her calves are rounded and strong. She tends to walk on her tip toes thanks to her foot shape and wears heels a lot, so they have grown accustomed and stronger than the rest of her body. Her face matches the rest of her body, being rounded and chubby in the cheeks, making her appear a little younger than her younger brother. She’s not fond of her torso, so she often hides it with corsets and taken in vests.
Despite her more freakish abilities and insides, Nightingale always seem to come off as cute to strangers and even friends. Perhaps that’s why she got the code name “Cupid” to be with, her outer layer looking soft and sweet while the deeper insides hide a more bleak and dark secret.
